Drunk Apple and Salami Skewers

The rich, creamy, salty, and nutty flavor of Gruyere cheese paired with dark rum salami and cucumber on a skewer with sweet and tangy New York-grown McIntosh apple cubes will tease you into sneaking one or two or more before the company arrives. It would be best to prepare twice as many, so you have enough for the guests. This simple appetizer hits all the right notes – salty, sweet, crunchy, and fresh – and they look great too!

  • One NY McIntosh apple, cut in half and then into ½” chunks
  • 1 package of thin, dark rum salami slices (regular salami works too)
  • 6 oz Gruyere cheese cut into cubes
  • 1 mini cucumber, cut in half lengthwise and then diced
  • 10 small wooden or bamboo skewers (about 3” long)

  1. Start threading skewers with one chunk of apple, a cube of gruyere cheese, a chunk of cucumber, one folded piece of salami, and another piece of apple, and finish with one cube of cheese. Continue loading skewers like this until complete.
  2. Arrange them neatly on a serving platter or board.
