Ingredients

Apple Filling Replacement

  • 4 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 3 Tablespoons water
  • 2 Tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon + 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 2 Tablespoons water

Apple Streusel Cobbler

  • Apple Filling
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts
  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 can (14 oz.) Sweetened Condensed Milk (NOT evaporated milk)
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon(s) ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon(s) ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsifted flour
  • 1/4 cup cold butter or margarine

Instructions

Apple Filling Replacement

  1. Melt butter and cinnamon in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in apples, sugar and 3 Tablespoons water. Cover and cook stirring occasionally for 4-6 minutes or until slightly softened.
  2. In a small dish combine cornstarch and 2 Tablespoons water. Stir into apples and continue to cook until apples are soft and filling is thickened. Let bubble 1 minute. Cool.

Apple Streusel Cobbler

  1. Heat oven to 375° F. Spread apple filling in greased 9-inch square baking pan.
  2. In medium bowl, beat eggs. Add sweetened condensed milk, melted margarine, cinnamon and nutmeg; mix well. Pour over apple filling.
  3. In medium bowl, combine sugar and flour, cut in cold butter or margarine until crumbly. Add nuts and oats. Sprinkle over egg mixture.
  4. Bake 50-55 minutes or until set. Cool. Serve warm with ice cream, if desired. Refrigerate leftovers.
